One of My Passions
Everyone
of us has something we have a passion for in their lives. Mine is
“water”. Clean water, helping to bring it to the people in third world
countries where a glass of clean water for most of them is unknown. I
have traveled to other countries and seen small children spending their
days carrying water on their heads back to their humble shacks. And
this is not clean water. Approximately % of the deaths in third world
countries stem from polluted water or lack of any water.
This passion began in 1984 when my husband, I and our two small children traveled to Guatemala to drill a well for an orphanage that was being started. Today those children have a wonderful environment to live in with safe, clean water. My husband traveled several times to Africa, our young driller took his family to Haiti for a year, we spent a year in Belize drilling and my husband was repairing a drilling rig to take to Costa Rica when he was suddenly killed. From this point I have continued to work with other groups to see the needs for clean water fulfilled. In 2003 I traveled to Guatemala to assess locations for drilling. In 2004 I sent a young driller to Nicaragua to assist a project where a Rotary group has been faithfully drilling each winter for 5 years. In 2006, I donated a drill rig to a group who have a successful project in Zambia, Africa. Subjected to a life of hopelessness and usually prostitution these girls will be given a future at Villa Esperanza. I am linked into many groups that send short term teams to these locations to help that people. It is such a rewarding way to give a week of your life. Many teams can be made up of people with few “skills” that you normally associate with this type of trip. There is always plenty to do though. And if you have a medical or building skill all the better!! If you would like more information regarding these opportunities please ask me. A percentage of my sales go to help with the development of water so please remember this when thinking of choosing a Realtor for selling your house or buying a new one. Part of the money will go to these worthy causes. It might be water or possible helping to build those in crisis a new home as we “buy and sell” here in America.
